Progeny Update

from Bermuda Racing 08/08/2024
Spirit Of Bermuda had her first foal by the top stallion Kingman at the beginning of March and he looks a smart individual at this moment in time.

Spirit Of Bermuda was confirmed in-foal to No Nay Never and is carrying a colt. Both the mare and foal are enjoying the upturn in weather, with the foal due to be weaned in the next month or so.

2024 Progeny Update

from Ellie Pennington 05/06/2024
Spirit Of Bermuda produced her first foal this year, an eye-catching filly born in March by a leading sire in Kingman; the sire of this year’s 1,000 Guineas winner Elmalka.

Covered by No Nay Never on 6th April and has been scanned in foal on multiple occasions.

Spirit of Bermuda post race thoughts from Simon (20.09.21).

Update (20.09.21)

from Danielle Millar 18/10/2021
Note from Simon 20.09.21: Spirit of Bermuda ran prominently until she ran out of steam in the closing stages finishing a very creditable 6th on her US debut. Tom Morley was very pleased with her and Jock liked her a lot. He felt she equipped herself well first time up. She goes now to the shorter 7f 3yo fillies only Listed Glen Cove Stakes race at Belmont on 15.10.21 in which she should be very competitive.

Naming History

Spirit of Bermuda is named after a purpose-built sail-training vessel of the same name. Based on civilian Bermudian-type schooners built in Bermuda between 1810 and 1840 the vessel is operated by The Bermuda Sloop Foundation, a charity delivering a first class Character Education Programme to young people from the island.

Unlike the original vessel, which would have been built almost entirely from Bermuda cedar, utilising the plank-on-frame method of construction, the Spirit of Bermuda is constructed with more readily-available woods such as Douglas fir and teak, utilising the modern 'cold-moulded' method of wooden boat fabrication. She was built in the US for the charitable Bermuda Sloop Foundation (BSF) to serve as a sail training ship for Bermuda's youths.
