Sea Venture, the smart two-year-old daughter of Sea The Stars, is taking everything in her stride as she continues her education with George Scott. Settling in well at Eve Lodge, she has been enjoying her canters around racing’s headquarters in Newmarket and continues to progress well. A very straightforward filly with a promising future.

Naming History

As with each horse under the Bermuda Racing banner, the Scupham family pay homage to the beauty and history of Bermuda through carefully considered naming selections. Sea Venture takes its name from the famous 1609 English vessel deliberately grounded by Sir George Somers upon Bermuda’s reefs after sustaining damage during a hurricane in the Atlantic. It was a courageous decision which ultimately saved all those on board and led Somers to discover the beauty of the island he became so deeply fond of, that he would later return there, eventually dying in Bermuda. The event became one of the defining moments in the island’s history, helping shape Bermuda’s mythology and even inspiring elements of Shakespeare’s The Tempest. The story of the ‘Sea Venture’ became one of resilience, survival and new beginnings - the moment a crisis turned into the founding of something enduring, and an apt inspiration for this exciting filly, combining adventure, determination and a spirit of discovery.
