Eye-catching win for Bermuda Longtail
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Bermuda Racing have another smart filly on their hands.
Purchased for €220,000 by Highclere Agency from Donovan Bloodstock at the Arqana Breeze Up Sale earlier this year, Bermuda Longtail has certainly exploded onto the racing scene.
Second on debut just a couple of weeks ago, it was a return to Kempton and a step up to 7f from 6 that appeared to do the trick this evening. Drawn the widest of the lot and having to go the long way round on her debut, Bermuda Longtail ran a huge race then, and franked that class today, making light work of the 7f contest. Ridden by Jason Watson, this smart filly made all the running and eased home with plenty left in the tank. Never threatened, she was gently squeezed before the line where she responded with a lengthening of her stride and extended her lead with ease. What an exciting filly she looks to be.
Trained by Andrew Balding, this 2yo-winning daughter of Hello Youmzain is named after an iconic ‘Symbol of Bermuda’. The Longtail is a white-tailed tropic bird and is a beautiful feature of the Bermuda coastline, prominent during the summer months. Unlike her namesake, we didn’t push for her prominence during the summer and this patience has already been duly rewarded, with Bermuda Longtail now having finished in the first two in both career starts.
Notably her sire Hello Youmzain (based at Haras d’Etreham in France) has also exploded onto the scene this year, producing two Group winners already from his first crop of two-year-olds. 2024 has been a fantastic year for Bermuda Racing with the top-class Flora Of Bermuda landing her Gr.3 win and multiple Gr.1 performances. Could the stars be aligning for another Stakes filly within our ranks? We certainly hope so…
“What a perfect performance by Bermuda Longtail this evening in division 1 of the 7f, 2yo fillies’ novice at Kempton, on only her second start. She broke well and lead from the start all the way to the finish, hardly breaking into a sweat. So much to look forward to, particularly since she showed us tonight that she can step up in distance to a mile. There are of course some important races over this distance that could come into play as a three-year-old!” - Simon Scupham, Bermuda Racing
