Flora’s Next Chapter Begins - But She Will Always Carry Bermuda With Her

Bermuda Racing’s flagship filly, Flora Of Bermuda, has been sold to Wathnan Racing; the Emir of Qatar’s powerhouse operation, ahead of what promises to be a headline summer campaign.

Flora Of Bermuda made a thrilling return to action last month when narrowly denied in the Group 2 Duke of York Stakes, finishing just a neck behind Inisherin - last year’s impressive Group 1 Commonwealth Cup winner at Royal Ascot. It marked her seventh Stakes performance, further cementing the Group 3-winning filly as a major force on the sprinting scene, and saw her price shorten as much as 16-1 for the Group 1 King Charles III Stakes and 12-1 for the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Throughout her career, Flora has demonstrated remarkable consistency at the highest level, including a Group 1 podium finish when third in the British Champions Sprint Stakes (behind Wathnan Racing’s Kind Of Blue), and a strong fourth in the Prix Maurice de Gheest. While she’ll no longer race in Bermuda Racing colours, we’ll be cheering her on every step of the way - hoping she claims the Group 1 glory she so richly deserves.

Simon Scupham, founder of Bermuda Racing, reflected on the significance of the sale:

"It is with a mixture of personal sadness, immense pride and huge excitement that I announce that we have sold our beloved and most special of fillies, Flora of Bermuda.

"We are very excited that she will now finish her career racing in the Emir of Qatar’s Wathnan Racing silks, in whose silks we are sure she will achieve the Group 1 success she so much deserves. Hopefully she will also go on to a second successful career as a broodmare, where no doubt she will be supported with the very best stallions to give her the very best chance.

"Given what Flora has achieved in her career, we simply came to the somewhat inevitable point where she was way too valuable for us to continue racing given all the inherent risks involved. The really good news though is that we can all still continue to marvel at her exploits on the track. She will always be Flora of Bermuda and will continue to be mentioned in despatches. All being well, for some time yet to come she will keep Dame Flora Duffy and Bermuda truly on the global racing map… Go Flora Go!"

Flora has carried the Bermuda Racing colours with distinction and pride, and though her silks may change, the story she carries continues to inspire.
