From Breeze-Up to Black Type: Bermuda Longtail Makes Her Move

It’s been quite the week for Bermuda Racing at York, marked by a pair of standout performances from our talented fillies. While both were narrowly denied victory, each claimed an impressive second-place finish in high-class company. What exciting performances to have this early on in the season!

Following Flora Of Bermuda’s exhilarating run in the Group 2 Duke of York Stakes, it was Bermuda Longtail’s turn to shine in today’s Listed Michael Seely Memorial Fillies’ Stakes over one mile. Making just her fourth career start - and stepping up to Stakes level for the first time - the three-year-old daughter of Hello Youmzain delivered a thrilling performance under top jockey William Buick.

Previously known for her front-running style, Bermuda Longtail showed a new dimension by coming from off the pace. She unleashed her trademark giant stride in the closing stages, storming through the field to finish a fast-closing second - just half a length behind the now three-time unbeaten winner, Kon Tiki. The form of which looks strong, with Kon Tiki having previously beaten Life Is Beautiful, runner-up in the recent Listed Pretty Polly Stakes.

Bermuda Racing’s Simon Scupham was delighted with the performance:

“Hold onto your hats—Bermuda Racing has another star in the making! Our three-year-old filly Bermuda Longtail turned heads with a scintillating late run at York. Coming from last, she surged through the field to finish a fast-closing second, just half a length behind the winner. The jockey was full of praise saying it was all her determination, he just had to steer as she crossed the line with her ears pricked.

“We’ve always held her in high regard. She was the fastest filly at last year’s Arqana Breeze-Up Sale [purchased for €220,000 by Highclere Agency from Donovan Bloodstock] and boasts an exceptional 8-metre stride — both on full display today. Earning this all-important black-type is a huge milestone, enhancing her long-term value as a broodmare.

“But for now, the focus is firmly on her racing career. All being well, she could step up to 9 furlongs for the Group 3 Princess Elizabeth Stakes at Epsom on Derby Day. Watch this space!”
