From Overlooked to Unforgettable
Flora Of Bermuda announced her seasonal return with authority yesterday, delivering a massive run in the Group 2 Duke of York Stakes at the beautiful York Racecourse.

Making her four-year-old debut, she was narrowly denied victory — beaten just a neck by Inisherin, last year’s impressive Group 1 Commonwealth Cup winner at Royal Ascot. But it was Flora who truly caught the eye as the field charged for home and despite her gutsy effort, she was collared close to the line for a hard-fought second. A remarkable seventh Stakes performance for this Gr.3-winning filly.
As the Racing Post put it:
“[Flora Of Bermuda] can put this down as another 'what might have been', unable to get out at a critical stage, her bid flattening out late having had to use plenty up. It still rates a cracking return, and she'll be a force again in all the best sprints.”
Bermuda Racing’s Simon Scupham couldn’t hide his pride:
“Flora showed the heart of a lioness out there, not to mention an impressive turn of foot - only running out of puff in the final few, albeit, important yards. We were absolutely thrilled with her performance, especially given the lack of luck in running and the fact that she was in need of the outing. There’s no doubt some big days lie ahead for this very special four-year-old filly.”
The ever-passionate Bermuda Racing Founder couldn’t help but take a note on her pre-race odds:
“We were all shaking our heads when she drifted to 16/1 before the off - Flora must have felt the same, judging by the look she gave us while being unsaddled. If only she could talk… We’re pretty sure we would have heard her mutter ’It’s about time I got some respect!’ - and who are we to argue with that?”
With Group 1 targets firmly on the radar, this electrifying run marks the beginning of what promises to be an unforgettable season for Flora Of Bermuda.

📉 Spoiler alert: We doubt you’ll see 16/1 next time!
