It’s Group 3 honours for Flora Of Bermuda

WOW WOW WOW, what a day!

Our girl Flora has finally got that all-important Group win that she thoroughly deserves and given the fashion in which she did it, there appears to be more in the tank yet still. What a day to savour.

It was a highly competitive renewal of the Gr.3 Summer Stakes at York, a race which sees last year’s winner Swingalong (Showcasing) line up in the Gr.1 July Cup at Newmarket today (13/07/24). Stepping up to 6f, Flora had to wait for daylight and when a gap opened, Flora rallied on under a great ride by P J McDonald, boosting through the gears inside the final furlong to take the Group 3 feature by 3/4 of a length to Adaay In Devon (dual Listed winner).

Trained by Andrew Balding, this is a was a fourth black-type performance from Flora Of Bermuda, with previous placings including a second in the Gr.2 Flying Childers Stakes at Doncaster as a two-year-old and more recently a second in the Listed Scurry Stakes. Having won as a juvenile, our talented daughter of Dark Angel is now a winner at 2 and 3.

Purchased by Jake Warren of Highclere Agency for £340,000 at the Goffs Doncaster Breeze Up Sale, this win thoroughly secures Flora’s future as a broodmare, complimenting to Bermuda Racing’s sustainable ethos of breeding from the horses that are purchased.

Simon Scupham of Bermuda Racing was understandably thrilled following Flora’s win:

“Patience is the name of the game!

“Flora’s terrific win today in York’s highly competitive Group 3 Summer Stakes was so well deserved. She has always been regarded as a special horse with a special talent but so often the gods have transpired against her.

“The patience shown by the trainer and all his team is now paying off. Stepping her up to 6 furlongs was also inspired. Patience was also needed by PJ in running today!

Lots to look forward to!”
