Flora Of Bermuda Returns To Winning Ways At Newmarket

Bermuda Racing alumni Flora Of Bermuda returned to winning ways in style, securing Listed success in the Ellen Chaloner Stakes at Newmarket for Wathnan Racing.

Former Bermuda Racing flag bearer Flora Of Bermuda added another deserved success to her high-class record, with a smart win in the Listed Ellen Chaloner Stakes at Newmarket for Wathnan Racing. This was a first win in the silks of her new owners and a second stakes success for the Gr.3 Summer Stakes winner.

Having consistently performed with credit at the highest level throughout her career, the five-year-old dropped into Listed company for her seasonal return and showed all of her quality and determination to battle home for victory on the Rowley Mile.

Speaking after the race, trainer Andrew Balding described her as “a wonderful filly” and said he believes “there’s a big one in her.” Watch the full interview below.

Wathnan Racing advisor Richard Brown also reflected on the significance of the victory afterwards, saying: “She’s run some great races without quite doing so in much bigger events, so it was lovely to see her do that.”

Now entered for the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot - a race in which she finished third last season - Flora Of Bermuda looks set for another exciting campaign on racing’s biggest stages.

Everyone at Bermuda Racing has been incredibly proud to have played a part in her journey, and it has been a pleasure to watch her continue to thrive at the highest level. Best of luck to all of her connections this season - we very much hope that Group 1 success she so deserves is still to come.
